With two days remaining in the year, figures released by the police high command indicate that 25 fewer people have been killed in 2020 when compared to 2019.

The data captured during the period January 1 to December 26, shows that 1301 people have been murdered across Jamaica.

During the corresponding period in 2019, there were 1326 reported murders.

Of the 19 police divisions, six have recorded increases in murder this year. The St Andrew South division which leads the list in murders in 2019, is again atop the 2020 list with 141 murders.

This is followed by St Catherine North, 125, which saw a slew of gruesome murders to include a grandmother and her two granddaughters in November.

St James 121, St Catherine South 111, Clarendon 103 and St Andrew Central round out the top six.

The police say they have been conducting daily operations as the year come to a close, to target violence producers and search for suspects wanted for murders, shootings and other serious crimes.
