Morocco’s second World Cup match looks set to be shrouded in a cloud of controversy following news on Friday that star defender and captain Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial on allegations of rape.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender who was active during Morocco’s opening 1-1 draw against Brazil is reported to have had his referral ⁠to criminal court appeal rejected, French media reports as per Reuters.

“Today, a story that isn’t mine is being told at the expense of my family, my life, and above all, the truth. Sometimes I feel like I’ve become an easy target,” Hakimi shares via his social media.
