People could be literally clipping away money, which appears to be the case following reports of the presence of a market for fingernail clippings in China.
According to reports, the unusual demand for nails is used as an ingredient to form some of traditional medicines, where the pieces that are typically discarded as trash and are said to be collected, then thoroughly cleaned before being ground into powdered form .
It’s further understood that a Chinese media outlet, Kankan News, recently reported that a Hebei woman was selling her fingernail clippings online, for 150 yuan ($21) per kilogram.
It’s reported that the use of nails has been part of traditional medicinal creations since the 1960s, before the popularity of nail polish saw the diminished need, with the advent of other products reportedly also providing a similar effect.
