The sixth instalment of the”Pirates of the Caribbean” is set to kick off a reboot of the popular action franchise.
Film producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the re-start in a recent interview with ComicBook.com while responding to questions about the future of fellow box office production Top Gun.
“We’re gonna reboot Pirates,” Bruckheimer shared. “That is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
No further details about the upcoming project was shared.
The reports come two years following speculations about the change in direction for the movie, including having a female lead star in the iconic film, with Barbie star Margot Robbie among the reported candidates.
Speculation around the switch altogether began to emerge following a 2022 Bruckheimer interview with The Sunday Times, where he expressed apprehension that Johnny Depp, who starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in all five previous instalments, was unlikely to reprise the role of the iconic character.
Talks of a reboot were further amplified when President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production at the time, Sean Bailey, told The New York Times that a restart of the “Pirates” franchise was a priority for the company.
“We think we have a really good, exciting story that honours the films that have come before but also has something new to say,” said Bailey
