The elderly man who was detained under suspicion of being involved in the shooting in Charlie Kirk’s death is reportedly facing charges of obstruction of justice for falsely claiming to be the shooter as a distraction so the real killer could flee.
According to reports, the man identified as 71-year-old George Zinn was officially arrested, with the second-degree felony charges expected to be officially announced in short order. He was also booked in connection with images on his cellphone depicting child abuse, said state authorities, as per the Guardian.
It’s understood that Zinn confessed to deliberately claiming responsibility as the culprit in the immediate aftermath of Kirk’s shooting at Utah Valley University (UVU) on 10 September, to act as a distraction to help the real killer escape. He, of course, was seen being carried away for questioning by the authorities of the campus in widely circulated videos.
It’s further reported that after being brought to a hospital to treat an alleged medical episode, Zinn is said to have told officers that he was “glad he said he shot the individual so the real suspect could get away”, according to police documents as well as a statement from authorities, as per the Guardian.
