Team Jamaica secured a historic first win at the World Lacrosse Box Championships following a 12-6 victory over Chinese Taipei in Pool D action in the men’s category.

Jamaica was just edged out 14-12 by Scotland in their historic Championship debut on Sunday having started the game the more purposeful of the two teams.

Hattricks from Isaac Newland, Tanner Sims and Damon Edwards ensured that Jamaicans crossed the line this time around.

Edwards and Newland got the ball rolling for the Jamlax team scoring the opening two goals as Jamaica rushed into a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes.

Newland added Jamaica’s third in the 15th minute to make it 3-1 after Chinese Taipei’s Bailey Wood pulled a goal back in minute 13.

After conceding a second goal in the 27th minute, the Jamaicans went on a rampage, scoring nine unanswered goals to extend their lead to seven with a 10-3 margin at minute 41.

Newland and Edwards claimed two goals each in the siege, with Sims also adding his name to the scorers’ list.

Sims bagged Jamaica’s final two goals during a late surge by the Taipei team, who managed to net three more times, making it 12-6. Despite the late pressure, the Jamaicans maintained their composure to see out the remainder of the game for a historic victory.

The JamLax team are set to face USVI in a playoff round on Wednesday.
