Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle put in a courageous effort through a knee injury to finish 11th in the men’s long jump final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games a short while ago.

The 2019 World champion, who misjudged his second jump and landed awkwardly on his way to qualifying with a heavily strapped left knee, is said to have suffered a level one tear.

However, he was given the option to decide whether or not he would contest the final, and through sheer determination, the 24 year old turned up to cut the sand at 7.69m on his third and final attempt. He had earlier fouled his first two attempts.

Had he not been injured, Gayle would have been more competitive as his national record stands at 8.69m, which was also his mark when winning the World title in Doha.
