France’s President Emmanuel Macron was forced to walk through the streets of New York to reach his destination due to the blockade established to facilitate the passage of US President Donald Trump on Monday night.
In now-viral video clips online, President Macron is seen speaking to a New York Police officer who apologetically explained the reason for the restriction along the route, before making a phone call to the Head of State himself, relaying his predicament, which he joked was caused by him.
I’m sorry, Mister President, I’m really sorry,” the officer said. “It’s just that everything’s been frozen right now. There’s a motorcade coming right now, that’s why.
“Guess what, I’m waiting on the street because everything is frozen for you,” Macron said, speaking to Trump, before laughing at his response.
President Macron, along with his security and entourage, was later seen walking through the city streets amongst curious onlookers, some of whom he stopped to take pictures with along his journey as he made his way to his destination.
He is among several world leaders who have arrived in the US for the United Nations General Assembly to speak on pressing geopolitical matters.
