Brooklyn and the surrounding New York City diaspora are about to experience a shock of Jamaican culture as it prepares to host the first-ever free Jamaican Day Parade set for August 8.

The event, organised by the Jamaica Rising Day Parade organisation, is said to be the first of its kind in city history, fully dedicated to Jamaican culture.

As opposed to the popular annual West Indies Day Parade, which celebrates the Caribbean nations, there has never previously been one strictly to showcase the island’s culture in a deep way.

The parade will traverse through areas heavily influenced by diaspora presence as well as lesser populated areas to deliver a direct peep into what the coolest island on the planet is all about.

It is set to feature local cultural groups, schools, churches, community organisations, elected officials, local vendors offering traditional cuisine, entertainers, marching bands, youth organisations, athletes, etc., as per PIX11news.
