“Zizou has come home”. French football legend Zinedine Zidane has officially signed on to become the new head coach of France. The deal, which was confirmed on Tuesday following weeks of reported negotiations, is said to run until 2030. Effectively taking
them to the next World Cup cycle.

Zidane takes the reign former France team and World Cup winner Didier Deschamps, who stepped down following France third place playoff against England on Saturday (June 18).

Zizou, of course, starred for France in their 1998 World Cup victory at home, and again in 2006 as Captain, coming out of retirement to help ‘Les Bleus’ reach the final in Germany. The gig will be the first major managerial role for the former France captain since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 following two successful stints at the La Liga giants.

It’s the second major coaching update since the World Cup, following Jürgen Klopp’s confirmation as Germany’s new head coach.

The iconic Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager was tasked with the job of repairing Germany’s football after another disappointing exit at the tournament. Zidane’s first major championship will be next year at the European Nations League tournament.
