Dancehall juggernaut Shaggy says the old style and sound of the iconic genre is “over” as the new sound gradually finds its space internationally.

The Grammy winner made the bold declaration during a recent interview as he spoke about the gradual uptake of the new “trap-fused” sound.

The “Bombastic” hitmaker noted the recent successes of songs with the new wave of dancehall sounds, such as Teejay’s Billboard smash “Drift,” as a foreshadowing of the overall direction and uptake of the new era in the music.

His views were met with mixed reactions as several online users noted the validity of his points, while others rejected the notion.

Dancehall has been experiencing a trend of cross-genre releases that have gained traction locally and internationally.

Hip-hop break away-Trap music and South African break-out genre, Amapiano have been among the fused sounds that have caught the ears of many.
