Tennis star Nick Kyrgios suspended following testing positive for cocaine

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after testing positive for a metabolite of cocaine ahead of his ahead of the Mallorca Championships in Mallorca, Spain, this summer.

A release by the ITA said that the positive test came from a test sample in June, which revealed the Australian had traces of the prohibited substance in his body during the active season.

“The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has provisionally suspended Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios under the Tennis Anti-Doping Program,” an ITIA statement read. “31-year-old Kyrgios provided a sample during an ATP 250 event in Mallorca, Spain, on 22 June 2026. On 17 July 2026, a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory confirmed the presence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine.”

For his part, Kryrios took to social media to confirm the news and expressed remorse for his actions, also noting that he will take the time to reflect and work on himself.

There has yet to be a timeline stated for the duration of his suspension; however, in the interim, he is not allowed to play in, coach, or attend any events organised by any national tennis association.
