Amazon founder Jeff Bezos could be adding club owner to his portfolio following news of being involved in talks to purchase shares in the Premier League Football giant Liverpool.
According to reports, Bezos is among the high-profile investors behind a consortium in advanced discussions with the current owners, Fenway Sports Group, for the sale of approximately 1/3 of the English Club.
The consortium is also said to include Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, as per SkyNews.
Such a deal would be upwards of US$2 billion based on the team’s current overall market value of US$6 billion as at 2026, according to Forbes.
Should the deal be finalised and approved, it would further raise the club’s value and the profile of high-level U.S. investors at the club, which already includes NBA superstar LeBron James, who’s a minority stakeholder in the Reds.
