A group of Chinese researchers has discovered a new strain of coronavirus, NeoCov, that may pose a threat to humans in the future if it mutates.

A yet to be peer-reviewed study also shows that the NeoCov is closely related to the Middle East respiratory syndrome, which is a viral disease that was first identified in Saudi Arabia.

The newest NeoCov strain, as outlined by scientists, carries the potentially combined high mortality rate as one in three infected people die on average.

Further studies obtained also show that the current vaccinations will not provide adequate protection from any eventuality of the infections caused by these viruses.

Meanwhile, a report obtained from the Vector Research Center has also outlined that this virus also possesses a high transmissibility rate.

The report also stated that the origin of the virus is quite similar to COVID-19 as it has been found in a population of bats in South Africa and has spread exclusively among these animals.
