The Ministry of National Security in partnership with dancehall star Jeffrey ‘Agent Sasco’ Campbell, Digicel Foundation, and the Department of Correctional Services opened a recording studio yesterday at the Metcalfe Street Juvenile Remand Centre in Kingston.
The new Black Diamond Recording Studio at the facility is expected to be a ticket out of a life of crime and delinquency for just under 100 inmates.
Officials are optimistic that the youngsters, who oftentimes face discrimination and are sidelined when released from penal institutions, will be empowered with musical skills and have the ability to lead successful lives when reintegrated into society.
Correctional officer Meshach Brown is the leader of the music programme at Metcalfe Centre.
The studio, which is expected to transform the behavior of the boys, was completed in April this year.
