Rihanna to play Smurfette in upcoming Smurfs movie

Rihanna is going to be a Smurf. The pop icon announced that she has been cast to voice the role of Smurfette in the upcoming movie.

“I tried to get the Papa Smurf part but it didn’t work out”, Rihanna joked while making the announcement following her surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday.  

Speaking more about the process of getting into the latest animation film on stage, the Diamonds singer said, “Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me.”

“In this, I got to play a part where I got to just imagine, I got to be, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester and play a little blue bad ass”

In a light-hearted moment, ‘Riri’ who is pregnant with her second child with boyfriend, Rapper ASAP Rocky added, “I hope this gives me a little bit of cool points with my kids one day.”

The ‘Pour-it-up’ hitmaker, who made her official return to music last year after curating two original tracks for the Black Panther sequel, ‘Wakanda Forever’, will also contribute original songs for the upcoming Smurfs film.

The Smurfs are a tribe of little blue creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest, created by Belgian artist Peyo in 1958.

The comic previously had three film adaptations which were produced by Sony in 2011, 2013, and 2017.

Smurfette, who was the first female character introduced to the series, was played by singer Demi Lovato in the most recent film.

The release date for the Paramount produced flick is slated for 2025.

While the Fenty Boss is known for her magic in the booth, she also has acting credits having previously played roles in ‘Battleship’, ‘This Is the End’, ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’, ‘Ocean’s 8’, and ‘Guava Island’.
