American Football great and controversial figure O.J. Simpson has died at the age of 76 following his battle with cancer.

The family of the late NLF star confirmed his passing in a statement posted to his social media account on Thursday.

News of Simpson’s death comes weeks following reports that the former Heisman trophy winner had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was in hospice care as he received chemotherapy.

Reports, which he played down in one of his last public appearances.

Simpson, who rose to prominence as one of the collegiate football and NFL all-time greats, also became a globally infamous figure following his murder trial and ultimate acquittal of the brutal 1994 slayings of his ex-wife and her friend.
