Singer/Songwriter Nyla has come out to clear the air as it relates to any perceived issues with Dancehall icon Sean Paul and her belief that there are similarities between the Will Smith and Sean Paul single “Light Em Up” and her 2015 hit collaboration with Major Lazor, “Light it Up” .
The singer took to Instagram on Tuesday to clarify her stance on the observation between the two releases.
She also clarified that she did not believe Sean Paul copied her track. Noting that she thinks he instead did his verse, to the track likely already put together by the record label, which he wouldn’t have a ‘hand in’.
However, Nya added that she and Sean Paul have come to an understanding around the matter and that no malice was intended as she was a creative simply pointing out what seemed to be an observed closeness of her work and the soundtrack record.
The “Love is Wicked” hitmaker sparked controversy following her initial video about the similarities between the two tracks with several users, including Sean Paul’s wife-Jodi “Jinx” Henriques, questioning the validity of her claims.
Nyla’s sister, fellow Brick & Lace member Nyanda also chimed in among those who defended and understood the perspective of the claims.
“Light Em Up,” which is the first soundtrack recording for Will Smith since Wild Wild West is among the songs on the 2024 action film, Bad Boys Ride Or Die.
