Fresh from his Russian Cup win with Spartak FC, National senior Reggae Boyz striker Shamar Nicholson has been voted the newcomer of the year for the recently concluded football season of the Russian top flight.

Nicholson, who came to the club as a January transfer, from the Belgian team RSC Charleroi, netted 8 goals in 16 appearances for Spartak in all competitions.

The Jamaican averaging 1 goal every two-games, was an integral part of the team’s campaign and eventual success in lifting the Russian Cup in May.

The 25-year-old, who opted out of the final stage of the Reggae Boyz’s failed World Cup Qualification, has been featured in Jamaica’s last two CONCACAF Nations League games.

Nicholson, who was named in the squad lineup to play Mexico on Tuesday at the National Stadium, will be looking to add to his 10th international goals so far.

The former Boys Town forward, was on the scoresheet the last time when he faced the Central Americans, and will no doubt be seeking to replicate that form once more in front of home crowd support.

Kick off time for the game is set for 7 pm.
