Two-time NBA champions, the New York Knicks, have taken advantage in adding a third banner to the rafters after a compelling come-from-behind 105-95 win over the San Antonio Spurs in game one of the final in San Antonio on Wednesday night.
The final, which was billed as the return of the giants, opened with a bang. The Spurs, coming off a dramatic Western Conference Game 7 win over OKC to advance for the first time since 2014, seemed to have carried over that momentum after taking the first quarter 27-19.
That, however, would be the climax of their Spurs’ influence on the game, as the Knicks’ fightback came alive in the second quarter, with a nail-biting 28-29 lead that would go on to become the catalyst for their dominant performance in the fixture.
Led by a game-high 30 points, four rebounds from Eastern Conference MVP and Jamaica Basketball hopeful Jalen Brunson, the Knicks outplayed their hosts in almost every department, taking the third quarter 28-21, before extending their advantage in a dominant fourth 29-19 to close out the game one 105-95 for the 10-point win. Stamping their authority in their first finals appearance since 1999, coincidentally against the Spurs.
