You “should not box in yourself to do one thing,” says international Dancehall star Masicka while speaking to Rolling Stone Magazine about the diversity in his style of music.

Opening up about his wide range of music interests, the “Moments” hitmaker noted the importance of retaining an identifiable sound. However, as someone who loves the ‘art,’ it’s natural to expand your pallet and feature other sounds.

“I was working off more experiences, wanting to venture into different songs and trying to be different while keeping my identity,” he said while speaking on Afrobeat and R&B-inspired features on his Generation Of Kings(G.O.K) album, such as “Fight for Us,” with Nigerian artist Fave and Wet,” featuring Haitian balladeer Fridayy.

He also referenced Bob Marley and Shabba Ranks as “greats” who have found success in the diversity of their style.

“We see Bob Marley do it and Shabba Ranks. So it has been done before,” said Masicka

Masicka, who signed with Defjam last year, has been seen as the next big thing to emerge from the genre, with his two albums, 438 and G.O.K, receiving critical acclaim.
