Dancehall’s top striker Masicka seems to have hit the target with major US record label Def Jam Recordings as it begins to promote his music under their umbrella, indicative of a record deal.

The Dancehall star appears to have inked a deal with the iconic label as its website was updated on Friday to include Masicka’s most recent release- ‘Pieces’ featuring fellow dancehall star Jahshii among its promoted tracks alongside other label-signed artists.

The specifics of the agreement between Masicka and Def jam records – whether it’s a distribution deal or full signing to the label have yet to officially be announced.

However, the move comes at an interesting time, as the ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker prepares to release his highly anticipated sophomore album.

While the project’s title and drop date have yet to be revealed, based on current happenings, it looks likely to be released under or jointly with the Def Jam imprint.

This is among a series of recent moves by the label to regain major shares in the international music space.

It also comes following the announcement that ‘We the best’ boss Dj Khaled has joined their massive stable of signed acts on Thursday.

The happening marks a new wave of interest in local music internationally following the recent signings of Shenseea to Universal/Inter-scope records, as well as Skillibeng’s deal with RCA records in 2022.

Reggae sensation Koffee was also signed to RCA records in 2021.

Most recently Columbia Records UK sealed a deal with  Reggae/Gospel singers Jermaine Edwards and Rushawn Ewears in January.
