A Chinese man reportedly needed to undergo emergency surgery after rupturing a facial artery due to incessantly picking his nose.

According to reports, the unnamed man’s bizarre case gained viral notoriety after his wife shared the situation by a short clip documenting his experience with hopes of dissuading other avid nose-pickers from this harmful practice.

The report detailed the man’s habit as almost obsessive, noting that he indulged in the act during virtually all his day-to-day actions, such as standing, sitting down, or lying in bed.

The consequence of his daily nostril exploration came to a head after he suffered a serious nosebleed that kept flowing despite his and his wife’s best efforts to pacify the injury.

Following the panicked couple’s trip to the hospital, the man was diagnosed with a ruptured artery and rushed into emergency surgery to fix the damage. The entirety of the man’s hospital experience was recorded by his wife, including her snarky question when he was recovering from the operation – “Honey, why don’t you pick your nose? Get up and pick it again.” – and posted it online.

Health experts warn that nose-picking poses a serious risk of infection, but when it becomes a habit, it can cause even more problems, like damage the nasal mucosa, and in extreme cases like the one presented above, it can damage the blood vessels or tissues in the nasal cavity, or even rupture an artery.
