A Man in China was forced to have his left eye removed due to a severe infection after swatting a drain fly on his face.
According to Yangcheng Evening News, the man surnamed Wu, killed the fly buzzing around his head by swatting it against his face.
The seemingly innocuous act was thought to be just ok for Mr WU, however, it was just the beginning of a more severe chain of events, his left eye became red, swollen, and painful.
it’s understood that the symptoms worsened, forcing him to seek medical attention, where he was diagnosed with seasonal conjunctivitis.
Although being prescribed medication to treat the diagnosis his condition quickly deteriorated in the following days.
It’s further reported that he had almost completely lost vision in his left eye by the time of his second hospital visit, with the area around the eye having become severely ulcerated.
Following further tests, it was later discovered that the conjunctivitis was instead a bacterial infection from the swatted drain fly.
Given the rapid spread of the infection and the infectiveness of the medication, doctors decided to surgically remove the eye to prevent bacteria from reaching the brain.
