Reggae legend Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, Regggae/Dub star Lila Iké and Dancehall star kid Kraff Gad are among the heavy hitters recruited for Masicka’s “Forever Reign ” album.

The features, which also include the Afrobeat act Blaqbonez, were strategically placed throughout the project to fit the gradually changing moods of listening as the album is cycled through. This also showcases a variety of sounds in the drop.

Jr.Gong’s feature, titled “1 Psalms”, opens the project with a deeply reflective, spiritually strong baptism of lyricism and conscious resonance twined with motivational themes and resonating social commentary, neatly woven Reggae-esque cadence, setting a strong tone for the album.

The track, which sees them musically connect for the first time, delivers an expected, lyrically competent and soul-stirring messaging conclaved in an ear-catching flow, littered with wordplay and punchlines designed to engage the ‘prefrontal cortex’ with its deeply meditative, motivational composition.

Kraff Gadd, another first-time collab, presents a more than pleasant surprise on the project with his appearance on track nine’s “Honour Roll”, which delivers a punch of the Danehall excitement with its uptempo, flow-heavy, vibesy collab, seeing both acts deliver complementary bars to suit the feel of the song with Masicka again showcasing the depth his bag with switch of slow, and creative delivery which itself is a theme of the project of fresh styles for each song.

As previously mentioned, Masicka taps into the afrobeat market, and his connection with Blaqbonez reaffirms his growing affinity with the genre, undoubtedly a nugget for his massively increasing fanbase on the continent with the latest afro/dancehall track titled “G Wagon”, which is an uptempo club banger for the ladies, which the gents can also rock to in headphones or in the car.

Ike is the returning resident on the project, having jointly featured on each other’s projects prior, including Masicka’s previous “Generation of Kings” album, closes this latest release with another compelling effort on “Parables”. The track, fittingly themed around gratitude, encapsulates Masicka’s mindset of grace in his accomplishments, impact and status as a generational leader in music, as he confidently embraces his past, growth and blessings of current success as a visual road map of persistence through faith. Paired with the soulful vocals of Iké’s delivery, adds to the song’s authenticity, compulsion and feeling of overcoming and growing as only she could. A closing affirmation for his listeners to end on a reflective and inspirational note, essentially embodying the effort on the album, a well-balanced body of work.

The selections, placement and sound choice showcase the growth and further creative diversity of appeal that Masicka is appealing to the release.
