They’re a Jamaican rock band, of course, we had to find out more about their music. Iron Kyte talks about doing rock music in Jamaica.

Why Rock as opposed to reggae?

The band’s lead vocalist, Brendon Wesley, noted that his intrigue for rock music came about ironically as a result of a Vybz Kartel line, which piqued his interest and ultimately his passion for the “alternative” genre.

He noted that the Blues/Rock connection to Reggae is not as far-fetched as it may seem.

What is the reaction to your music

The reaction of patrons to the band is typically intrigued and pleasantly surprised.

While noting that the reactions are generally pleasant, he highlighted marked differences in appreciation between local and foreign listeners of their music.

Where did the name come from?

The lead vocalist noted the inspiration behind the name Iron Kyte.

How big is the local rock music scene?

While Rock bands are not as popular as their reggae and dancehall counterparts, the rock scene is a small but budding field Wesley shared.

Places that are for rock performances

Despite not necessarily having a lot of live performance spaces in Kingston, the band has delivered solid sets at venues such as Redbones, Comfitanya and Footprints.

Some of the Band’s recognition thus far includes being featured twice in British-based publications and performing at the Jazz and Blues Festival.

Going on a world tour is among the goals of the local band, which has been gaining a steady international following.
