A couple from the Indian state of Uttarakhand has indicated that they will be suing their only son and his wife for not producing an heir after being married for six years.

The couple Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad, 61 and 57, outlined that they’ve spent their life’s savings on their son’s wedding which amounts to a grand total of $650,000 or £525,000.

Prasad also highlighted that funds were also spent on the wedding reception in a five-star hotel along with a luxury car worth $80,000 and a honeymoon abroad.

As such the couple is demanding compensation on the grounds of mental harassment if their wishes to have a grandchild is not met within a year.

“My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable” Prasad explained.

“It is a dream of every parent to become a grandparent. They had been waiting for years to become grandparents ” Prasad added.

As it now stands, the couple’s petition, is expected be heard by a court on 17 May.
