Four per cent increase in weapon seizure – Commissioner Antony Anderson

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson has indicated that 448 weapons have been seized at the ending of July. This figure represents a four percent increase when compared to the corresponding period of 2021.

In addition, the island has also recorded a 59 percent increase in rifle seizures as well as a four percent increase in pistols seizures.

The information was disclosed during a press conference held by the Jamaica Constabulary force earlier on.

Commissioner Anderson also noted that major crimes have seen a steady increase. So far, murder is up by 4 percent when compared with the corresponding period last year.

Additionally, gang conflicts account for 70 percent of these murders, interpersonal conflicts account for 14 percent, while 6 percent occurred in furtherance of criminal acts.

Mob Killings also accounted for 1 percent and 9 percent are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, there has been an eight percent decrease in shootings and a 16 percent decrease in rapes. However, murders have increased by four percent, robbery is up 10.5-percent and break in is up 3-percent.
