A former Florida suburban school worker was reportedly sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to fleecing the district of $1.5 million worth of chicken wings.

The ruling which was handed down on Friday came after, Vera Liddell who was the food service director for Harvey School District 152, accepted the deal with the prosecution in exchange for the sentence, WGN reports.

Liddel was accused by Cook County Prosecutors, of stealing large amounts of food meant for take-home meals for students learning remotely during the pandemic period.

According to court records, it’s alleged that Liddell ordered over 11,000 cases of chicken wings from the school district’s food provider before herself in a district cargo van.

The scheme which is said to have been happening for months was uncovered during a mid-year audit by the district’s business manager, who then reported the irregularities to the authorities.
