Rap superstar Drake was in his Jamaican patios bag on Popcaan’s ‘We Caa Done’ single which dropped at midnight on Friday.
Drake who’s featured on the track delivered arguably his most fluent effort of the local dialect on the track which is the second official single on Popcaan’s soon-to-be-released single.
Drizzy who developed a strong passion for the culture over the years has never shied away from dropping a few phrases of the much-adored Jamaican tongue in several of his tracks either through samples or his own vocals.
“Try fi rush me off try fi brush me off I see.” “Bad man like skull (Popcaan) an me from Unruly girl why pree” is calmly delivered by the Drake which shows drastically increased fluency and progressed grasp of the style and context of speech.
In fact, in addition to the singing hook, his entire verse on the song was delivered in patois/patwah.
The effort shows the ‘6 God’ demonstrating that he’s able to hold form in deejaying alongside his resident Dancehall artiste Popcaan, who no doubt would have tutored the OVO boss on the nuisances of deejaying and his typical rap style.
Fans would have gotten their most preview of Drake’s growing mastery of the Dancehall flare on -Twist and Turn.
The track is a single from Poppy’s 2020 Fixtape project which also features fellow OVO singed artist PartyNextDoor, saw Drake take charge of the intro and chorus which again was a good effort at patios dialect in the song.
Either way, a Drake and Popcaan collab is always something fans always look forward to hearing since the Dancehall act signed for his OVO sound in 2018.
We Caa done on a whole is another effort by the two to satisfy demand, especially in the context of an album.
The video has already amassed over 390,000 streams in its first 15 hours of premiering on Popcaan’s YouTube channel alone to break into the top 25 most trending songs on the platform currently.
