Luis Diaz bagged a sensational double as Liverpool rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield to become the new leaders of the English Premier League.

Liverpool, who was upset 1-0 by Nottingham Forrest last week, were eager to make up for that shock with a solid home performance on Saturday.

Diaz netted twice in two minutes to stun the visitors as Liverpool capitalised on the chances from their early pressure.

The Colombia international broke the deadlock in the 26th minute after cleverly going around the keeper following an error at the edge of the box, slotting home to make it 1-0.

The celebration had barely subsided before Diaz doubled the score in the 28th minute.

The striker latched on to a low cross into the box by teammate Trent Arnold Alexander before dispatching his shot past the Bournemouth custodian for a second time in as many minutes.

The visitors were forced to retrieve the ball from their net for the third time in the half after Darwin Nunez made it 3-0 in minute 37 following a tidy give-and-go with fellow forward Mo Salah ‘in the 18’ before curling his effort into the far right corner of the goal.

The score would remain unchanged until the final whistle, which confirmed a morale-boosting victory for Liverpool, who moved to 12 points, leaping over Manchester City atop the table on goal difference.
