Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, more popularly known as Cardi B continues to make significant strides in the music industry. This time she has exceeded even her own expectations with her new single “UP” having topped the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In a recent interview on The Tonight Show, the artiste said she

“Only wanted to go top 10”

and expressed sheer excitement at the song’s reception.

In the same interview, she admitted to fans’ demands being a huge motivational factor in producing the song as she releases solo singles infrequently. Since striking gold with her chart-topping song WAP ft Megan Thee Stallion last year, the demand for her music has grown exponentially. What has also magnified is the expectations which is another source of the “pressure” she admittedly uses as fuel.

She is now the first woman to have consecutive No.1 debuts on the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Following this realization, she published a heart-warming tweet that read

“…I want to say thank you to all my fans and supporters this is BIG for me… I wanted to beat my last solo single number and I over succeeded. First time a female rapper debut top 5 since Lauren…”.

Her catalogue is decorated with Grammy-winning releases and a slew of hit songs that have led to her amassing a huge following. Consequently, she is touted as a massive source of inspiration for all considering her genesis.

By the rate at which Cardi B releases music, her fans know better than to expect another single any time soon. However, her precedents dictate that when she does drop music it will be of a familiar top-shelf quality. Hopefully, UP will be able to sustain her insatiable fanbase until when next she decides to top the charts with another song release.
