For 72 weeks the iconic reggae album Bob Marley’s Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers has held a firm monopoly on Billboard’s Reggae Charts. With this, the number two spot has seen many new Reggae releases vying for the coveted position.

Top Prize, which was released by Alkaline recently, debuted at number 2 on the Reggae Charts. This is the same result for big albums such as Buju Banton‘s Upside Down which was released on June 26, 2020 and debuted at number 2 as well – the same can be seen with Popcaan’s Fixtape that came out last year and debuted at number 2.
This might have something to do with the statistics which state that Jamaicans do not buy music, this leaves sales to the international buyers which is the demographic that is buying a 30 year old album.
Deejays, artistes and producers such as Jeremy Harding explain that Jamaicans do not buy music. This suggests that Bob Marley’s 30 year old album still has more international reach than most of the new reggae albums being released.
