A major emergency response is unfolding across northern Venezuela after twin earthquakes which struck within seconds of each other, triggering widespread damage assessments and search-and-rescue operations across affected regions on Wednesday. 

According to data reported by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the twin tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude hit coastal areas within approximately 38 seconds, sending strong shaking through densely populated zones. Early reports from regional monitoring systems have indicated significant structural impact, with emergency teams working through collapsed buildings and continuing damage assessments as aftershocks remain a concern. 

While official figures on casualties have yet to be confirmed by international agencies, early local reporting indicates multiple fatalities, with injuries in the hundreds, as rescue operations continue with coordinated emergency rescue efforts on the ground.

The Government of Jamaica is responding by reaffirming regional solidarity and signalling readiness to support coordinated relief efforts as Venezuela manages the aftermath of the disaster. 

On Thursday, in a statement posted on the Prime Minister’s official page, the Government of Jamaica expressed readiness to support relief and recovery efforts in whatever way it can, aligning itself with the wider Caribbean and international community. 

The statement reflects long-standing Caribbean disaster cooperation frameworks, where island states routinely coordinate preparedness and response mechanisms in the face of hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural hazards affecting the region. 

As emergency agencies continue assessing the scale of destruction and monitor ongoing seismic activity, attention remains focused on Venezuela’s recovery efforts and the developing humanitarian situation.
