The wait for a new Rihanna album looks to be nearing its end, as Riri expressed an absolute desire to have it dropped this year during her recent sit down for British Vogue magazine.

Rihanna who elegantly graced this month’s cover of the coveted fashion publication along with partner ASAP Rocky and her nine-month-old child shared among other topics such as motherhood, and the prospects of a new project.

“I want it to be this year,” says Rihanna while discussing her long waited R9 album.

“Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”

Riri shared that she also misses producing visuals for the songs almost as much as the music itself.

“… I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video of me talking,” she added.

While no date was shared for a possible release, the news is the clearest indicator yet for Rihanna fans, who have been clamoring for something new since 2016’s Anti.

The hint should also pacify fans who were left confused after the Fenty boss debuted her new pregnancy instead of new music during her spectacular Super Bowl halftime show performance on Sunday.

The story also confirms what Rihanna has long said, that she has been consistently recording music — but not releasing it. “Your taste changes, your vibe changes,” she explained.

The international ‘Bad Gal’ released her first original music since 2016 last year, following the release of her contributions to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

The songs were Born Again and Lift Me Up, with the latter earning her first Oscar nomination.
