A 14-year-old girl died on Friday after she was tortured by her father and another relative for weeks in what was deemed as a tantric ritual to rid her body of an alleged demon.

The deceased has been identified as Dhairya Akabari, a resident of Talala taluka in Gujarat India.

Reports indicate that from October 1 to 6, Dhairya was subjected to immense torture which included beatings and starvation from her father Bhavesh Akabari and his elder brother Dilip Akabari as part of a ritual that geared at exorcising a ghost.

Further reports also outlined that the victim was dragged to a nearby sugarcane field, her hair were made into a knot, and put her between the two chairs.

She was made to sit in between these chairs and not given any food for two to three days where she later died.

Moments after her death, both her father and her uncle wrapped her remains in a blanket and carpet and cremated her immediately so that nobody could get wind of this incident.

Subsequently both men were arrested and later charged in connection with her death.

Meanwhile, The Bar Association of Talala has since criticized the killing and has taken this decision by consensus that no advocate will take up the case to defend the accused and will not appear for their bail in the court.
