Jamaica’s Under-20 Reggae Boyz rode their luck one-step a too far, after being thrashed 5-0 by the Central American team Honduras in their Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers on Monday.
The Boyz who narrowly escaped defeat in their previous match against Costa Rica following an extra time penalty conversion by Jahmari Clarke, rescued a dramatic point in a 1-1 result, but found no such favor from the Hondurans.
The group leader Honduras waisted very little time in proving their point. Marco Aceituno opening the scoring after just three minutes to stun the young Reggae Boyz as they struggled slightly to keep up with the pace of the Hondurans.
Jamaica’s keeper was again forced to retrieved the ball from his own 30 minutes later after Aceituno returned to add a second goal to his tally in the game.
Following the second goal, the Boyz looked more purposeful in their defense and was able pacify Honduras’ attacks for the remainder of the half as it ended 2-0.
That purpose however, seemed to have ended with the half time break as the Jamaicans found themselves 3-0 down just three minutes after the resumption, with Isaac Castillo tripling Honduras’ score in the 48th minute.
Superior tactics then came to the fore in the game, as the second half substitute Jefryn Macías added the fourth and fifth goals in 58th and 59th minutes to complete the routing.
The result means Honduras moves to six points with their second successive win to lead the lead group while Jamaica remains third on the table with 1 point after two games.
They will however, have another chance to advance to the next round should they get the better of Antigua on Wednesday.
