The teen sensation Dujuan “Whisper” Richards declared his readiness for world football after becoming Jamaica’s youngest ever goal scorer in the CONCACAF Gold Cup during Jamaica’s 4-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.
Richards, who was introduced into the game as a late substitute for fellow Striker Leon Bailey in the 82nd minute, repaid Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson’s faith with a rocket from approximately 24 yards out.
The significance of the goal marked the 17 year old’s first senior strike, but also made him the youngest to score in the tournament’s history.
Head Coach Hallgrimsson was the first to point out the achievement to the public during his post-match press conference following the victory.
Hallgrimsson noted that Richards’ performance was evident of his quality as the performance verified his inclusion in the squad following criticisms in some quarters about his selection.
The Jamaica Football Federation later announced the feat via their social media before Richards himself expressed gratitude for the achievement on his own page.

The Reggae Boyz will seek to secure qualification into the next round when they face St. Kitts and Nevis on Sunday.
