A 34-year-old suspect linked the July 16 Georgies Plain shooting incident in the parish has been arrested and charged. The accused Shawn Smith of Frome River, Westmoreland was charged with wounding with intent and illegal possession of firearm.

Police reports indicate that on Saturday July 16, Smith was reportedly among a group of men who opened fire hitting a man. Subsequently the police were summoned, and the victim was taken to hospital where he was admitted.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation and listed Smith as wanted in connection to the melee; Smith later turned himself in on July 20.

As it now stands however, a court date is being arranged.
