After 27 years of defeat the West Indies through the work of fast bowler Shamar Joseph, created test cricket history by beating Australia in Brisbane on Sunday.
Australia was set for a straightforward victory at 2-113, chasing 216 but the “Windies” stunned by eight runs as Joseph took seven wickets.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness commended the team as he wrote on his Instagram page “Congratulations to the West Indies cricket team on their historic triumph, securing their first men’s Test victory in Australia since 1997! Well done! Your dedication and resilience inspire us all.”
The victory happened because of the 24-year-old Guyanese who won the Man of the Match title.
He told the media “It’s just happiness, when was the last time we won in Australia? I can’t even remember. Today’s a big day for us.”

He continued saying “I feel like we won the series even though it’s 1-1.”
The last time West Indies defeated Australia was in 1977.
Both Australia and the West Indies will play three one-day internationals and three T20s next.
