A popular notion is that good music will always have an audience. That continues to be the case for Bob Marley and the Wailers, as their classic “Waiting in Vain” was certified gold in the UK on Friday.
The iconic reggae jam has received its second BRIT-certified status after pulling sales of 300,000 units in the territory.

The single, which formed part of the diamond-selling “Legend” album, earned its first UK certification in 2020 after going silver for registered sales of 200,000 in that market.
The album, which has gone 14 times platinum in the territory alone, is also recognised as a diamond-selling project by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), having registered sales of 15 million units in the US to date.
“Waiting In Vain” is also the “Gong’s” 8th gold-selling single in the UK.
The certification is Marley’s 78th plaque in the UK and adds to his already expansive global trove of posthumous accolades.
The feat further underscores the multi-generational appetite for the Marley message, as the brand remains a strong, appealing, relatable and enticing content regardless of the era.
