Wage issues; Labour Minister provides an update

Following the news that both the Education Ministry and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA, agreed to have educators return to normalcy in schools come Monday, May 29, the recently appointed Minister of Labour, Pearnel Charles Jr provided SLEEK News with an update.

Minister Charles said the JTA officials agreed to go back to work following a meeting convened by his Ministry, this morning (Friday, May 26, 2023) which was greeted by a group of teachers protesting for better wages and good treatment from the government.

Protests were conducted in several parishes, with schools closed and teachers marching and chanting ‘teachers deserve more’.

A meeting will be held next week with the Education Ministry, Jamaica Teachers Association and the Finance Minister with the Labour Ministry leading the discussion, surrounding the recently announced government compensation review package.
