Dancehall star Vybz Kartel has expressed confidence that the “Court of Appeal in Jamaica will do the right thing” with the final handling of his murder case after his conviction was “quashed” by the UK’s Privy Council on Thursday.
The Court of Appeal was given the final say by the Council to decide whether the “Dancehall Hero” would be set free or a retrial would be needed.
Following his successful appeal, a statement from Vybz Kartel shared by Fox5 news reporter Lisa Evers expressed confidence in the outcome of his over-a-decade-long fight for freedom following his 2014 conviction.
While Kartel awaits the final decision in his quest for freedom, he may at the very least be able to do so outside of the remand for the first time in ten years as lawyers for the “Worl Boss” can now apply for bail following Thursday’s ruling.
Attorneys for co-accused Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre ‘Mad Suss’ St. John will also be able to exercise that option.
The men were convicted for the 2011 murder of associate Clive “Lizard” Williams and sentenced to life imprisonment.
