Newly crowned Formula One double world champion, Max Verstappen played his cards right to cruise to a record-breaking 14th win of the season in the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday.
The win caps off a dominant season for the 25-year-old flying Dutchman, who now moves ahead of legends Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher to hold the record for the most wins in a single season.
It is a more deserving feat considering Verstappen’s 2022 campaign has been a roller coaster ride. The Red Bull driver was plagued by reliability issues at the beginning of the season and found himself on the back foot with two retirements from the first three rounds.
Once Red Bull sorted their reliability issues there was no stopping the champion. He went on a rampage winning 12 races from 16 starts, including a five-race win streak.
Scintillating drives in Hungary and Belgium to win from 10th and 14th respectively reminded us why he’s the best in Formula One at the moment.
Verstappen also now holds the record for the most points scored in a season. A record previously held by 2021 championship rival, Lewis Hamilton.
At just 25, the Dutchman has time on his side, and many have dared to state that he could be well on his way to breaking the top records in Formula One and becoming the greatest of all time.
With two races still left to run in the 2022 season Verstappen is aiming to extend the two records set yesterday.
