The venue for the opening game of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Cricket World Cup is expected to be under a careful gaze after the Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas, was hit by severe weather, forcing the cancellation of an official warm-up match on Tuesday.

According to reports, a scheduled warm up game between co-host United States and Bangladesh was abandoned before play as the “conditions of the facilities” were deemed unsuitable for action.

Warnings for strong thunderstorms, flash flooding and tornados have been given for the area. Images on social media appear to show the stadium’s giant TV for replays and graphics severely damaged in the aftermath.

Tournament organisers will be hoping for drastically improved conditions ahead of the June 1 start of the competition, which will be co-hosted by the West Indies.
