The biggest summer movie for 2023, “Barbie” has reportedly contributed more than £80m to the UK economy, particularly during filming.
The news came via the production company Warner Bros. The film generated more than £95m at the UK box office.
Warner Bros provided evidence to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee as part of the inquiry into British film and high-end TV.
The company said: “During its production in the UK, it contributed over £80m in direct spend to the local economy, created 685 jobs, involved over 6,000 extras, supported 754 local businesses, paid over £40m in local wages.”
It also reportedly noted that while “Barbieland” was designed to look like a toy town in California, sets such as Barbie’s Dreamhouse were built and filmed in the UK studio.
