Commonwealth Games 100m Champion Elaine Thompson-Herah, will be looking to add more jubilance to Jamaica’s Independence Day celebrations, with another golden medal performance, when she lines up in the finals of the women’s 200m on Saturday evening.

Thompson-Herah who has been the class act of female sprinting in the games, will again be seeking to validate her favorite’s tag with another title.

The Double Olympic champion, will be starting from lane 7, just outside Nigeria’s Favor Ofili in lane 6. Ofili, at least on paper is expected to be one of Jamaica’s biggest challengers; being one of only three finalists to break 22-seconds this season.

Ofili’s season’s best of 21.96 seconds which is also her personal record suggests that; she is in the form of her life and could provide some excitement.

She will however be sandwiched by fellow Jamaican finalist Natliah Whyte, who has been blessed with favor to line up in lane 5. Whilst yet to have breached the 22-barrier, she has been running consistent all season, logging 22.57 seconds just outside of her 22.55 seconds PR.

It is consistency which has been rewarded with a finals spot in the games, and may reward her further with a new PB in the finals based on her form.

The other expected podium challenger will come from Whyte’s left side in lane 4, in the form of Nambia’s Christine Mboma.  She is the third of three women to have dipped below the 22-second barrier this season.

The lineup of ladies is set to provide an interesting contest, if not Gold, at the very least, a heated battle for the podium placing.

That will close out Day 6’s penultimate day of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
