Dancehall star Vybz Kartel is set to receive another plaque certification after Partynextdoor’s 2016 hit ‘Not Nice’ was Brit-certified gold for sales of at least 400,000 units in the United Kingdom (UK).

Not Nice was officially certified gold by the British Phonographic Institute (BPI) on Friday.

The single, which features label boss Drake, samples vocals from Kartel to form the bridge of the record, which also adds to the Dancehall cadence of the rap single.

The sampled vocals were taken from a then-unreleased Kartel song, “Real Bad Gyal,” of which the distinguishable phrase “You a real bad gyal weh nuh tek back chat and anything yuh seh, yuh can defend dat” is heard.

It’s the latest certification for the track, which has also already earned platinum status in the US after the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) verified the equivalent of 1 million units sold.

The honour follows Kartel’s solo Brit-certified silver plaque earlier this year for his 2016 smash “Fever.

Fever Kartel’s most commercially successful release was also RIAA-certified gold for sales of 500,000 units in 2020.
