National netballer Latanya Wilson, who lost her house in a fire, has received the keys to a brand new home courtesy of a partnership between the National Housing Trust and West Indies Home Contractors Limited.
Wilson, along with her family lost their house at a premises on Rum Lane in downtown Kingston on August 25, 2023.
The handover of a special lease took place at an elaborate ceremony at the Ministry of Sports on Wednesday.
Along with the new home, Wilson received food products and a cash donation of $250,000 from Grace Kennedy.
The 22-year-old Sunshine girl told the media that she is happy about receiving the keys to her ‘own’ place.
She added “I don’t even have the words to express myself. It is just an amazing feeling, and I am super happy for all the sponsors and Government and Ministry for coming on board to assist me.”

For the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, the outpouring of support is a strong signal that people care for Latanya.
Grange said, “The moment I learnt about the fire I reached out to Latanya from Budapest where I was attending the World Championships, and started the process to get help for her and her family”.
She added that “Latanya is fully deserving of our support. Not only has she excelled for the national team but she is a standout player for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the Australian Suncorp League. Latanya helped the Thunderbirds to the 2023 Championships in Australia and the Sunshine Girls to the bronze medal in the Netball World Cup in South Africa last month.”
The Minister also thanked NHT and WIHCON for the provision of the house.
