Carnival in St Lucia may have wrapped but it remains an unforgettable experience of cultural exchange, entertainment and a showcase of creative expressions.
The increasingly popular ‘fete destination’ by all accounts hit the target again for the overall experience with its 2024 staging.
While the road march and parade aspect would have attracted the bulk of excitement, patrons got to ‘wet their appetite’ with a series of pre-carnival fetes.
Whether you were an early bird or a night owl, the pre-carnival events delivered a solid entertainment ‘fix’ to satisfy any preference as well as soca craving.
Breakfast themed events such as “Sun Up,” and “Indulgence” provided a welcomed dose of early morning adrenaline, while fetes like “Brazen” and Remedy” delivered high-energy night rave.
In addition to pulsating music and vibes led by their respective bands Carnival’s opening day-Monday was highlighted by captivating costumes to reflect their unique themes this year.
From Alien to Warriors, the revellers were adorned in various eye-catching gear which elevated the thrill factor, especially among Carnival novices seeing the scale of the costume designs live.
Day two was characterised by a more dressed-down attire, however, the effect remained the same as street revelry continued at the highest tempo which was further elevated by the interactiveness of the locals who cheered on the procession.
In an interview with Sleek Jamaica, Minister of Tourism for St Lucia, Dr Ernest Hilaire, noted that Carnival is a nationally supported endeavour. And undeniably, that pride and welcoming feeling of community and cultural charm was felt during the festivity adding to the overall experience of the island.
